Our Latest Campervan Adventures: The NEC Motorhome Show & a Stormy Whitby Trip🚐🌊

We’ve had a couple of busy weekends at CoyCruisin! Last weekend, we headed to the NEC for the Motorhome & Caravan Show to check out some incredible vans and pick up a few new bits for our own setup and this weekend, we took the van to one of our favourite places, Whitby, for a distillery tour!

One trip involved shopping for new van accessories, and the other involved gin, rum, a storm and one of the worst night’s sleep we’ve ever had in the van! πŸ˜‚

A trip to the NEC Motorhome & Caravan Show

We drove over two hours to the NEC for the final day of the Motorhome & Caravan Show. There were loads of incredible vans to look around, and it was great chatting to different brands and companies and seeing what’s out there!

We also wanted to upgrade our outdoor setup, so we ordered the Dometic GO Compact Camp Chairs in Ash and the matching Dometic GO Compact Camp Table We love the neutral colour, and we managed to get them a little cheaper at the show. They’re on order now, so we’re looking forward to trying them out on our next trip!

We also picked up the Dometic GO Hard Storage 60L for just £99 on a special show offer. It comes with one large storage box and three smaller boxes inside, all included. Anything that helps keep the van organised is a win for us!

Finally, we grabbed a YETI Silo half-gallon water container for £50 on offer. It’ll be ideal for keeping our drinking water cold without carrying loads of individual bottles around. Tom also treated himself to a YETI coffee mug, because apparently we can never leave a show without buying something extra! πŸ˜‚

All in all, it was well worth the drive, and we came away with plenty of inspiration and some exciting new additions for our van aswel as future projects we can share with our customers!

A weekend in Whitby… just in time for a storm!🌊

This weekend, we headed to Whitby to use some vouchers for a tour at Whitby Distillery. We love Whitby, so it was the perfect excuse to get away in the van for a night🚐

We stayed at The Penny Hedge pub, where overnight parking was £15. It’s literally next door to the distillery, which meant we could enjoy the gin and rum without worrying about driving afterwards! 🌿🍊

We’d definitely recommend both the distillery and the pub if you’re visiting the area!

We didnt call ahead to book a spot but we were lucky enough to get one! We found this via @park4night

The convenience of parking up right next to a distillery! Can you spot our van?!🚐

The pub is around a 20-minute walk from town. Despite the rain, we still made the most of our visit and headed to one of our favourite breweries near the abbey after the gin tasting!

What we hadn’t planned for was the weather getting worse overnight! πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’¨

The night we won’t forget in a hurry!

During the night, the wind really picked up. We’d parked near a tree, and at around 4am, a branch hit the van and woke us up!

We decided it was probably best to move, so we got up and parked at the other end of the pub car park, but sleep wasn’t exactly on the cards after that.

The wind was so strong that the whole van was moving about. Honestly, it was probably the worst night’s sleep we’ve had in the van! πŸ˜‚ it was like been on an aeroplane during turbulence! πŸ˜–

The next morning, we set off home, taking the long way back and encountering gusts of around 60mph. Tom had to concentrate hard on the driving while I sat there hoping we’d get home in one piece!

It wasn’t quite the relaxing night away we’d imagined, but that’s vanlife for you! You can’t control the weather, and sometimes the trips that don’t go to plan are the ones you remember most!

We still had a great time and will be back to Whitby again! We would love to go for Goth weekend next week but unfortunately work calls.. πŸ’€

if you are going and want a campsite recommendation let us know!

What’s happening back at home?

Tom has been busy in the workshop working on a van conversion project, as usual! You can find him there most nights till late and usually all weekend Friday - Sunday!

Meanwhile, we’ve had plenty of rain at home, and fingers crossed, we haven’t found any new leaks in the caravan! 🀞 After all the work that’s gone into trying to get it sealed, that’s a big reliefπŸ˜…

Hopefully, that means I can start thinking about putting it back together soon. But after our lack of sleep in Whitby, today is definitely not the day for any big projects! πŸ˜‚

Getting ready for winter vanlife

We’re already looking forward to getting back out in the van again. People often ask 'when do you stop going away in the van for winter?' But we're all-year round van lifers and sometimes the best trips are when you can get cosy in the van with blankets, fairy lights and of course the diesel heater!
it gives us something to look forward to on those cold, dark weekdays.. a night or two away in the van!

Hopefully, our next adventure involves a little less wind and a lot more sleep! But whatever the weather throws at us, we’ll keep getting out and making the most of vanlife! 🚐
