Why We Bought a Caravan When We Already Have a Campervan

Why We Bought a Caravan When We Already Have a Campervan

We’ve had quite a few people ask us… “Why have you bought a caravan when you already have a campervan?”

And honestly, there’s a very simple answer.

It’s Emma’s project πŸ˜‚

While Tom is busy getting stuck into our campervan conversions and all the work that comes with building vans, I wanted something of my own to get stuck into alongside him!

I’ve always loved the creative side of what we do — choosing colours, interiors, layouts and all the little details that make a space feel like us. So I wanted a project where I could have a bit more freedom to experiment and do things my way.

I wanted something small, old and full of potential that I could completely transform.

And then we found a little two-berth caravan. By now you'll know how we ended up with this little house on wheels and it seemed like the perfect project.

Until we started ripping it apart..πŸ‘€

What we thought was going to be a cute little makeover quickly turned into discovering far more damp than we ever expected..

When we started ripping out the bathroom, we knew there was going to be some work involved. But when we took the bathroom roof down, we discovered something we definitely weren’t expecting…

Old house 'for sale' signs had been used as a makeshift ceiling!

Yep. Actual old forsale boards were hiding up there. And underneath them?

Even more damp, obviously.

You’ll have to check out our Instagram Reels to see exactly what I mean because honestly, you couldn’t make it up!πŸ˜‚

The more we stripped it back, the more we found.

But rather than panic, we decided to just get stuck in (luckily for me Tom sees potential in everything, at this point I was considering scrapping it πŸ˜…πŸ˜”)

We’ve (Tom) has now replaced all of the rotten timber beams in the bathroom, completely re-framed around the window and added new beams to strengthen the walls.

And possibly one of the biggest achievements so far…

It actually smells better! πŸ˜‚

Anyone who has ever uncovered damp in an old caravan will understand why that feels like a major milestone!

Now we’re finally getting to the exciting bit.

I need to re-panel the bathroom and then I can start putting it all back together and bringing the vision I had in my head to life.

And the funny thing is, I still don’t actually know what I’m going to do with it when it’s finished!

Maybe we’ll sell it?

Maybe we’ll let it out?

Maybe it’ll become a little office at the farm where our workshop is?

Or maybe I’ll love it so much that we’ll end up keeping it?

suggestions welcomeπŸ˜‡

For now, I don’t really need to know...

I just wanted a project that I could call my own — something creative that I could work on alongside everything we’re already doing with Coy Cruisin.

Tom has his campervan conversions… and I have my slightly less glamorous, slightly mouldy caravan. πŸ˜‚

And I think that’s what makes this one exciting.

There’s no big plan.

Just a £600 caravan, a very specific vision, a LOT of work ahead… and me hoping I haven’t completely lost the plot.

We’ve also had A LOT of comments across social media telling us to scrap it, turn it into a trailer, cut our losses and basically run away from it as fast as possible πŸ˜‚ honestly, when we uncovered what we did, we could see why people were saying it! But we’re stubborn, and I’d already got this vision in my head of what it could become.. We’ve come this far, so we’re going to see it through and give this little caravan the chance it deserves. Worst case scenario… we’ll have a very fancy trailer?!

So, let’s see where this little caravan ends up!

From mouldy mess to something gorgeous… hopefully!
stay tuned!πŸ™ˆ
